Yes, a convicted felon can possess a firearm under one specific circumstance, and that is necessity. For example, you’re being attacked. You’re the convicted felon, your wife has a handgun. You take that handgun from your wife, and you use it to defend yourself in a stand your ground case, no harm no foul. But in general, if you’re a convicted felon, you can never possess a firearm. The only way to overcome that disability and not be a prohibited person is to get a gubernatorial pardon, or in some cases a presidential pardon.
