The police want me to give them permission to search my house, car, computer, camera, etc. Should I give it to them?

Far and away the most common exception to the 4th Amendment warrant requirement is consent. We see it happen all the time, and it is the easiest way for police to get away with searching some area that they otherwise could not search. We always encourage our clients speak to an attorney prior to giving police permission to search anywhere. There may be circumstances where consenting is okay, but I would always encourage folks to speak to a lawyer before giving that consent.
