You are allowed to protect yourself from unwanted assault by anyone else. Now the levels are what are important here. You can only use deadly force to protect yourself if you have an imminent fear of death or great bodily harm. If someone attacks you with a pool noodle that is not imminent fear of death or great bodily harm. You can’t pull out a handgun and shoot them and consider that self defense. On the other hand, if they are attacking you with a shotgun then you can employ deadly force to protect yourself. But it’s a complex question, I’ve given you a very simple answer so you need a competent lawyer consult in order to know specifically what your rights are.
